About Us

Our story

A project born in Oaxaca de Juárez

Oaxaca Auténtico was born in 2023 in Oaxaca de Juárez, driven by a simple desire: to document and share Oaxaca's living traditions beyond tourism clichés.

What started as a small blog has become a bilingual cultural journal reaching readers around the world. We write from the inside, at the pace of those who live here, not with the rush of those passing through.

Our team is made up of writers, photographers and collaborators who live in Oaxaca or maintain deep ties with its communities. We believe that the stories of artisans, traditional cooks, mezcaleros and guardians of indigenous languages deserve to be told with respect, rigor and care.

What we do

Three editorial pillars

01

Chronicles & reports

Stories written from artisan workshops, smoke-filled kitchens and communities that safeguard ancestral knowledge. Direct reporting, no intermediaries.

02

Documentary photography

Images that capture Oaxaca as it truly is: its colors, its textures, its people at work. No filters to disguise reality.

03

Bilingual archive

Every story is published in Spanish and English so that Oaxacan culture reaches further, without losing its original voice.

Our values

What we believe in

Direct reporting

We talk directly with artisans, cooks, mezcaleros and master craftspeople. No copy-pasting.

Editorial care

We don't sell exoticism. Every text is published with the care a tradition that belongs to its communities deserves.

No romanticizing

We celebrate the beautiful and also point out the difficult: cultural appropriation, working conditions, tourism pressures.

Accessibility

All our content is available in Spanish and English, so that the stories of Oaxaca reach further.
